This delicious homemade maple dijon vinaigrette dressing is made with 5 simple, healthy ingredients. It’s lightly creamy in texture, yet vegan/dairy-free. Super versatile, it pairs with everything from salads, grilled veggies, proteins, and more!
This salad dressing is made with maple syrup and dijon mustard, two ingredients that pair well with SO many ingredients. It’s one of those go-to dressings that can be added to all types of salads. So far, I’ve paired it with my apple cranberry salad as well as my potato green bean salad – two options for you to try 🙂

Ingredients needed & possible substitutions
All you need to make this maple dijon dressing recipe are 5 simple ingredients (plus salt + pepper):
- Olive oil: A high-quality extra virgin olive oil provides a source of heart-healthy fats that helps to make a salad more filling and satisfying, while also helping your body to absorb any fat-soluble nutrients in the salad itself.
- Maple syrup: Adds a touch of sweetness to balance out the more acidic flavours and provides that distinct “maple” flavour!
- White wine vinegar: Used to provide acidity to this salad dressing. I find white wine vinegar has a slightly milder flavour, but you could likely swap it with apple cider vinegar as well.
- Dijon mustard: In general, mustard helps to emulsify and thicken a salad dressing. In this case, it also provides the distinct “dijon” flavour that we’re looking for! I personally used a smooth/creamy dijon (versus grainy) that is milder in taste (not too spicy).
- Garlic powder: I like the way garlic powder integrates smoothly into salad dressing, but you could use freshly minced garlic cloves as well.

Tips for making maple dijon salad dressing
- There are two ways you can make this salad dressing. The first, is by adding all the ingredients to a small glass jar with a lid and shaking vigorously. I love cleaning out old jam jars for this purpose!
- If you don’t have any jars available, you can simply whisk the ingredients together in a small bowl.
- Separation of the oil from the other ingredients is normal. Simply give the dressing a good shake or whisk before using it.
- This dressing can harden/thicken a little bit when you store it in the fridge. Simply take it out before preparing your salad – this will give it some time to come down to room temperature and therefore thin out again 🙂
What to serve this dressing with
- Salads – this is an obvious first! I originally made this recipe with this Potato Green Bean Salad. It goes SO well together, but it’s truly one of those dressings that goes well with most salads. I think it would taste so good with salads with a bit of fruit in them (like blueberries or strawberries), avocados, shredded carrots, steamed beets, cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, nuts, shredded cabbage, whole grains, crumbled cheeses…the list goes on!
- Pasta salads – mix this with your favourite small pasta shape, some chopped up raw veggies (like cucumbers + tomatoes), some leafy greens (like spinach or arugula), and a protein (like shrimp or hard-boiled eggs)!
- Roasted or grilled veggies – this would taste fabulous over something like grilled zucchini or bell peppers.
- Proteins – this dressing would go well paired with certain proteins, like salmon, shrimp, chicken, or hard-boiled eggs. You can either add them to a salad OR pair them with some roasted veggies + potatoes, then drizzle the dressing overtop of everything to add flavour!
Storage notes
You can store this homemade maple dijon dressing in a jar with an airtight lid. It will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
Separation is normal – simply give it a good shake before using!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup dijon mustard (I use one that is smooth, rather than grainy)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt + pepper, to taste
Instructions
Combine all dressing ingredients into a jar with a lid or in a small bowl. Shake or whisk to combine, adjusting seasonings to taste.
Serve as desired (see post for ideas) or store in the fridge for later!

*SERVINGS/YIELD:This recipe as written yields approximately 1.25 cups of dressing, or about 4-8 servingsdepending on how much you enjoy adding to your salad!

I tried this and thought it to be very delicious! I used a grainy mustard, but I’ll go with the smooth next time. I had only apple cider vinegar and honey to use instead of maple syrup.
