There's been a lot of buzz around the Capital One Lounges located in a trio of airports, plus more on the way. And the buzz is warranted with Capital One Lounges widely regarded as some of the best you can visit airside. Travelers are drawn to the welcoming, modern aesthetic and excellent amenities on offer. If you want to access one of these awesome lounges, you'll have to have a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or Capital One Venture X Business card in your wallet.
Capital One has also been busy growing another concept outside of airports: Capital One Cafés. These coffee shops have started popping up in cities across the U.S., in busy shopping districts and malls. Part café, part bank, the Capital One Cafés offer discounts for cardholders, workspaces, ATMs, and more.
I recently stopped by my local Capital One Café to check it out. Here's what it was like and how you can visit one too.

What is a Capital One Café?
Think Starbucks, but with bankers and ATMs available. Visitors to a Capital One Café can access free Wi-Fi, order coffee and tea beverages, and relax or work in a comfortable space. Unlike the airport lounges, the cafés are open to anyone, however, if you're a Capital One cardholder you can snag a 50% discount on your handcrafted beverages.
Here's what I found at the Houston café.
Located in the Houston Galleria Mall, the overall vibe is a cozy, modern coffee shop with food and beverage as the center of the café. Around the perimeter are comfortable chairs and couches with outlets aplenty.
It is a welcoming environment with quiet spaces to work and free Wi-Fi, but it's also kid-friendly. There are tables with games, including Jenga (which my kids enjoyed playing together) and checkers. There were even bean bag toss games set up and little paper airplane kits available. This was perfect for a mid-shopping break with my boys.
There are also restrooms available, so that was an extra bonus with kids in tow.
The café offers rooms that you can reserve. Capital One cardholders can reserve smaller workspaces, and student and community groups can reserve larger spaces. Both are free. Additionally, financial advisors and occasional community events are available.
There were no sales pitches or pressure to bank with Capital One. It just felt like a coffee shop with extra amenities. But if you want to open a new card or ask questions about an account, “ambassadors” are ready to talk.

You can also find more information about the Capital One Café in your area by searching the locations on the Capital One website. Since the cafés range from standalone shops downtown to those in malls, the hours depend on the specific location. Our mall café doesn't open until 10 a.m.; however, the downtown Los Angeles locale is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Capital One Café Menu
The menu at our Capital One Café in Houston included classic espresso and coffee drinks such as lattes and mochas. I enjoyed a simple oat milk latte, but there were interesting options, like their signature drink: the honey lavender latte. The coffee served is made by Verve Coffee Roasters. Some locations serve Peet's coffee, but according to Capital One, these will all be transitioning to Verve within 2024.
If you aren't a coffee drinker, there are teas, tea lattes, and non-caffeinated drinks like hot chocolate. Some unique options include a Tumeric Ginger Latte and a tasty “Dreamsicle Spritzer.” My kids loved this.
The cold drink menu was less extensive than what you'd find at a Starbucks, though. For example, I didn't see any blended iced drinks available.
The menu included tasty-looking food such as pastries and sandwiches. There were also grab-and-go items in a cooler available for purchase. The only food we purchased on this trip was a bag of chips and a warmed-up chocolate chip cookie, but the cookie was delicious. According to the Capital One website, the café's regular food menu includes flatbreads, quiches, and sandwiches.
It's important to note that the food and grab-and-go drinks are not discounted for cardholders. You'll only get that 50% discount on the handcrafted beverages.

Bottom Line
It's an interesting concept: part bank, part coffee shop. I definitely enjoyed the 50% discount for being a Capital One Venture X cardholder. The drinks were good. My kids liked the games available, which made for a pleasant stop while shopping.
It's worth a stop-in, and if it was on my regular commute to work, I'd be happy to use my cardmember discount for an en-route pick-me-up.
